another thing I noticed. it never seems to do it when it is cold. Only when warmed up.
Also I have been reading about the teeth broken off. I would think that if this was the case, then I would have to turn the engine by hand when it got to a spot with broken teeth.
The starter drive may be bad and is not engaging the teeth fully, replace stater. As stated above, (not likely) the bolts may have loosened, check them first. Check the flywheel teeth all the way around. If there's major damage it will need replacing as well.
