I have a 99 cc lb 7.3 4x4. When I put it into four wheel drive it goes in fine and you can feel the difference. The question is yesterday while pulling something out of the ground the back tires spin but the front did not. I took it out on the street and it is in 4x4. Is this normal in the big trucks, because I didn't like that.

If everything is working correctly you should have both axles turning whenever in 4x4. If one of your front lockout hubs craps out or is not engaged you will get no front wheel drive (unless you have a front locker). The power goes to the wheel with the least resistance in an open diff which would be the broken side. These factory hubs are known for being less than sturdy, so you could have a hub that is broken or not engaging fully and when there is a lot of resistance it slips.
Are you using the AUTO or LOCK on the hubs when you were in 4wd? the AUTO feature is semi-reliable as our trucks age because they are dependant on the vacuume system being properly maintained. If your vacuume lines are deteriorated running from beside the shock tower on the frame rail to the top of the front axle knuckle, the front hubs will not auto engage. Same holds trus if the seal inside the hub is not doing its job. Best fix (if you dont mind getting out of your truck to engage your hubs) is to switch over to the Mile marker hubs or similar, and plug your vacuume lines. Lots of write-ups in this section on this one. On my '05 Excursion, My hubs worked fine, but the seal inside the hub was shot. I just had to use the OEM hub manually and it worked fine. (Auto as free).
Not sure if you are providing enough info. Could it be that the back let loose before the front because the front weighs more and the bed was not loaded down with any additional weight? Had you been driving forward or reverse while pulling the stump and how are you attaching a rope/cable to pull the stump and where are you tying it to the truck? The conditions of the surface under the tires may also be an issue if the back wheels had been over a hard surface. All of the tires will spin equally if conditions are the same under all four tires. I would not jump straight to busted equipment but look at conditions, setup and angle of truck first.
I was in the hard dirt. I had a chain on my ball hitch and when I hit it both back tires spin and at least the drivers side tire did nothing. I took it on the asphlat in front of the house and it was in 4x4 and my vacum lines are new. I know about that. I did have it in auto not manual lock, but on the street it was really hard to turn with it in 4x4. I'd like a front locker but not so good in the ice or snow on the street. More for the sand or dirt. It just don't seem to have the power up front that it dose in the rear. I am a drw also.
