Engine dies and steering locks while driving

Sounds like you have a problem with your ignition switch (which is actually mounted on the bottom of the column) and/or the linkage between it and the lock cylinder (where you put the key). Search the archives for info on servicing or replacing the steering column.

Does the steering actually lock up (doubtful) or just get really hard to turn? When the engine stalls you will lose your power assist but you can still turn it. Does it start right back up? What engine/trans do you have?
