Bad oxidation
My 77 has some serious oxidation. You can wipe your hand on the white paint and get a lot of white powdery stuff on your hand. I believe the truck has been painted at least once. Not looking for a show car shine but a little gloss would be nice. What product should I use to clean off this white stuff and bring back a shine?

This is easy....after washing with a liquid dishsoap (to remove any wax, dirt, grease, residue), use denatured alcohol (oil free), using a sponge, dampen and wipe the paint (I'm assuming it is acrylic enamel)....that will clean it, remove/dissolve any surface oxidation and by itself, bring the paint back to a very nice shiny starting point. Wash again to snsure removal of any residue, then use your favorite wax with a good polish (either separate or combined in one)

It's the old paint starting to break down and become chalky. Best thing to do is give it a good wash. I like machine polishers but you'll need a clean pad, white paint is very forgiving. I prefer a polish called farkle. (Spelling it's foreign). It's a wet polish which means you use it with water. This helps keep the heat down and keeps your from burning up you paint. Just go slow and easy, and don't take too much paint off or you get the transparent leathery looking paint. Good luck. And remember if you don't have the power tools, elbow grease is almost free.
