starting issues 5.4L

hello i have a 2000 f250 xlt 5.4l with alittle over 42k miles and im alittle stumped on the issue i have on my truck, it runs and drives good but randomly when i try to start it(doesnt matter if it hot or cold) it starts up and instantly sputters and dies and just cranks but if i wait awhile it starts right up and i hear the fuel pump come on, i dont smell any excessive fuel, there isnt a check engine light and to make sure i hooked my code reader and nothing my buddy told me it might be the iac valve or a fuel pump relay but i just dont want to start throwing money at parts i dont need so im on here and its not my daily driver but i just dont want it leaving me stranded somewhere any info will be appreciated

You could replace the relay they are cheap but my first thought would be fuel pump going out..

The IAC would be a good place to start looking.
