51 Radio

Try "joining" the antique radio forum and post a (free) classified ad. They're pretty good folk and most of them aren't out for a buck. They like to share the joy of old radios. Here:

You '51-52 guys are a lot luckier than us '48-50 owners. I think, but not absolutely sure, that the truck radios are the same as the cars, or at least very close, so your supply is quite a bit larger than the old models. The '48-50 have a specific to truck radio and are very hard to find. I've found a few of them over the years but they hard to find.

They are the same in configuation, but there are some dufferences.
The Truck Radios had Black ***** with both the push buttons and on/off, and station tuner.
Also some of the Deluxe car radios had an 8 tube inner and you turned the radio on & off with the left side tuner push button.
Bobj49F2 the radio from a 1949 Merc car will fit the dash of the 48-50 trucks exact confuration to the stamp out in the top of the Dash. Now you can't run the 51-52 Wiper motor with a radio in the 48-50, as it is center mounted.

I tried to run the '51-52 wipers with the stock radio. I ended up butchering the wiper set up and it never worked correctly. I just recently installed a '48-50 factory dual vacuum wiper set up and it worked fine until the wiper unit stopped working for some reason. I haven't taken the time yet to look at it.

Your right the Merc car radio is a little different, but it does fit the dash cut out.
I had on in my 1950 Pickup, and since I was repainting the dash pod I decided to do the radio from the Merc car at the same time. I got a real close match by mixing different hobby Paints "Testors", then air brushing the plates.
I had an extra dash pod and put them both side by side, and the color was bang on. Only thing different was the small grid pattern, it disappeared but how many even know its there.
On your vacum wiper those motors work better than some think they do. All they need is a little cleanup and some 3 in 1 oil or similar.
Where did you find the extra link arm for you 50 for the dual wipers. I was lucky and got an original from a Bell Phone Truck. Could have bought the Utility Box as wwell and i should hav, but thats water under the bridge.

I got the dual set up out of the last parts truck I bought. It was a bondo bucket mess but it must have been a relatively low mile truck. Other than the massive amount of mud on the body almost all of the parts I salvaged were in really nice condition. I just sold the exhaust manifold from it. It came off the truck with ease and it barely had a pit on it. In fact, it was in better condition than the one on my F-2, I would have swapped it but I felt it was better to let sleeping dogs lay instead of disturbing everything and making more work for myself.

photos of radios for 51 & 52
you know,
My truck's radio is out, and I got a box of parts from my dad but I
don't know if the stuff he gave me was for the 51 or where the heck it came from.
any body got a photo of what a 51 truck radio looks like?
how about a 52?
I'll google this also but thought I'd ask it' would be nice to have some tunes, (I even have an old FM converter I could use) but I'd have to get mine fixed for 12 volt unless I can make it work with a voltage drop unit of some type.
Thanks!
