Alright my 1973 429 just started doing this extremely high pitched whistling sound, not a squeal like a belt loose, although it does seem like it's coming from one of the front accessories, any clues onw hich it might be? or any other suggestions?
My money is on a vacuum leak also. Check all your vacuum lines, if no go, retorque the intake mainifold and check around the base of the carb.
You say it sounds like it's coming from one of the accessories at the front of the engine?
Check the vacuum advance and hose. Is there a PVS (ported vacuum switch) in the water outlet? Check that too.
well as far as i know i checked all the vacuum lines, that i know are there, ill retorque the intake manifold and carb tomorrow, but what would the pvs look like, idk what that is
Do you have a/c? If so, my money would be the idler pulley bearing. I've got one that squeals from time to time. I know it's gonna go one of these days, I just haven't gotten around to replacing it.
They look something like this. They are always located in contact with coolant, commonly the thermostat housing or intake manifold water passage.
yes it does have one of those, i put my fingers over that too, but doesnt seem to be any sucking or blowing, and the noise didnt stop when i put my finger over it

no a/c, the little pulley is still there but it doesnt spin
well i checked all the vacuum ports that i could find, no luck there, i found abunch on the intake/carburetor, and they are all plugged off with no leaks, no leak around the carb or intake either
easy way to find hidden vaccum leaks. take carb cleaner and spray suspect areas(hoses, carb base, intake etc.) while engine is running. engine will rev up if you hit aleak
