While driving at interstate speeds towing a camper (also not towing), engine "hiccups". When this happens tack jumps, vehicle lurches, loses power, and puff of smoke comes out of exhaust--all in about 1 second. If I "feather" the acccelerator, it does not help; however, if I press pedal to the floor, engine picks up speed and accelerates normally. Truck has automatic transmission towing with overdrive off. Cannot keep accelerator to the floor because engine runs to 2,800 to 3,000 rpm--close to redline.
What color smoke?
How much fuel in the tank when this happens?
Check engine or service engine soon lights on the dash?
Does the tach drop out when this happens?
Ford diesel F350 is a 2001
117,000 miles
no modifications
black smoke, full tank of fuels, no lights on dash, tach bounces 100 rpm approximately and only for a second.
Could my problem be electrical associated with the throttle electrical circuit?
Does anyone know if there is a module anywhere between the gas pedal sender and the pcm?
The problem goes away with the change in gas pedal position.
