I have 2000 f250 with no mods. It was worked before I got it and I'm trying to work the bugs out of it. Recently it started to lose power when I press the pedal down, more so on hills. I don't tow anything (yet), but the truck did before I got it. When I say lose power i mean it suddenly coasts. I thought the trany was slipping at first, but the rpm do not go up. It happens at higher rpm, over 2000, and the truck will coast as long as I'm on the throttle (but the engine does not rev up). I noticed white smoke while this is happening, and yesterday it backfired black smoke while it was happening. I thought it might be the ebpv and disconnected it, but it made no difference. It does need a fuel filter, but I don't think it cause something this extreme. What should I check next? fuel pump? intercooler seals? some other sensor I don't know about?
Do you mean in nuetral? I have taken it quickly to 2000 rpm in nuetral, but not more than that, and not for more than a second. While driving, it will happen easier on hills than flat. I think it's just because it needs more juice on the hills to get moving.
Yes in park or neutral rev it and see if it goes above the 2000 rpms. I am guessing it is an auto. How many miles are on it? Does the accelerator pedal go to the floor without any problems, or is it sticky? Make sure the floor mat isnt holding it from going all the way down. Do you have any gauges in it? Does it sound normal while its running, or does it seem to miss?
It's bone stock, no gauges, 250 kms (155000 miles), auto. it seems to run fine if i just drive around normal, but I can't step on it to pass someone. the pedal feel has not changed, it feels normal. the engine sounds fine until I hit the pedal and it "coasts" and the rmp slowly drop.
