Hey guys,
Ok today I was talking with the local scrap yard owner and he wants me to find out all the common problems with his supposle 2002 F350 4x4 lifted around 4 inches I would say with a 6.0L Crew cab truck. Now he says its a 2002 but I thought the 03 is when they came out with it but he doesn't believe me he says he has a catalog saying in 02 his F350 had a 6.0L. We both know it has a 6.0L for sure. He just wants to keep truck running good with no future problems. I told him in the early 6.0Ls they had a couple of problems with fairly easy fixes. Money I don't think is a problem for him so just let me know all the typical problems they have and the fixes you have found. He just spent $2000 in fixes for the computer on his truck.

6.0 started in 2003... is the door badge black or chrome?
and just to name a few things i would add to a 6.0 to keep it going... coolant filter, head studs, egr delete, updated oil cooler, scangauge 2
and MAINTENANCE, if you take care of the 6.0, it will take care of you. this means oil changes on time and fuel filter changes on time
First off it is chrome. Under the hood you can see signs of it being a 6.0L under the hood. I keep telling him but he doesn't believe me. Can maybe I get a few links I already told him about the egr delete but don't know where to get them and the good parts. And yes he does take care of it really well. And thanks miles for the quick response.

Sinister Diesel are the type of parts we used. I had my friend do the studs, OEM gaskets (make sure you use OEM head gaskets, not aftermarket) and oil cooler... so not sure where he got those. you can get the ARP head studs on about any diesel website, and the gaskets and oil cooler kit from ford
you can get the sinister diesel coolant filter and egr delete kit also from about any diesel website (www.riffraffdiesel.com is a good one, site sponsor)
First off for some reason the link gave me isn't working. Can he get the parts other then the OEM parts at Napa auto parts or do you only get them online. I don't know if he is going to keep the truck long I know he likes the 7.3L better and he already has a F550 4x4 7.3L that he loves but isn't good for the running around he does. He got the 6.0L for like $6300 it has a salvage tittle.

No, online and some of the diesel retailers that have stores. If he doesnt like it, i wouldnt invest all the money into it unless hes planning on keeping it for a long time. The first thing i would do is throw a coolant filter on it though...im sure you could find some way to rig one up from stuff at napa. its basically just a filter head with 2 hoses going out of it
thats cool he does alot of driving about 2000 or better miles a month. He loves the truck just likes the 7.3L more. He is only getting 18 MPG in it which to me sounds strange we get 17 long distance highway like he is driving in our 02 F250 V10 crew cab stock with 285 75 R16 tires. Sounds bad to me but if he is getting that fuel mileage he should just get a gasser and sacrifice 1 mpg and save probably 1000s but thats my figuring.
Trav
Is 18 really that high for a diesel I heard people claiming 21 with a 7.3L powerstroke I would think since the 6.0L is newer it would do better. and no we don't have super gas our 02 is chipped to get better gas mileage and the mods I think and probably a bunch of other things too.
Trav
18 mpg is what I got on the freeway with my 6.0l. To prove it's an 03 just open the door and show him the little sticker in there. It will definitely say 03. I think there's also a date on the sticker on the valve cover. No 02 6.0l's exist. The earliest 03's were still 7.3l's.
Ya I know I keep telling him that but he don't listen but anyways I think what happened is he is thinking of his 02 f550 4x4 but I don't know what he is doing now.

i would love to see proof of 17 mpgs in a v10...unless that is at 55mph...downhill...with a tailwind...i get 16 mpgs in my 5.4 at 58 mph highway... especially with other v10 owners claiming 7-11 mpgs...btw read the 6.0 bible for common problems
Lets see we used 6 maybe 7 gallons to drive from snowflake arizona to Flagstaff arizona which is in the white mountains in our 02 F250 4x4 Crew cab V10 with 4 guys in it. Proof enough? Snowflake to flagstaff is about 120 miles apart 1 way. Is that proof enough sir? Sorry to be an a** about it but it is true and alot of people don't believe me. We were going 55 set on cruise all the way. By the way thanks for the advice about the 6.0L.
