Gotta get an IDI running that has sat for a while with no fuel. I just had an idea to get fuel where it needs to be sooner. What if I pulled the return line off the IP and applied vacuum with a hand pump to the return nipple on the IP until I got fuel out? Wouldn't that suck out all the air and bring in fuel all the way up thru the IP? Only thing I'm not sure about is if the internal fuel pressure regulator in the IP will flow with a vacuum applied?
I would just take the supply line off the lift pump and stick it in your diesel fuel source, granted I dont know if your lift pump is good or not...
Already gunna do that, but between the lift pump and filter and filter to IP and the IP itself are still full of air. I'd like to get that out of there without using the starter. Thought this could work.
Also under what conditions can I get the IP to push more volume, if I hold it to the floor will it pump more air out faster then idle? I'll still need to push all the air out between the IP and injectors.
I don't think it would hurt anything to try it, you would need to have your key in the "ON" position to open your FSS. But I'm not sure just thinking out loud here.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think the FSS only controls fuel flow to the injectors. It shouldn't affect the return fitting. That being said, its not like it would be an issue if it was open or closed.
