BLOCK PLATE

Does anybody here have a block plate for a 400 with a c6.
Need to get the trans swap finished.
Also, is there an inspection plate as well or does the block plate cover everything and you just use the starter hole for inspection. I also am using a front sump oil pan if that matters at all.

THANKS

Are you talking about 7007 here?

D7TZ-7007-A PLATE ASSY. (ENGINE REAR) Marked with: D7TE 6A373-AA or -AB
Fits 351M & 400 engines, any transmission.

It's obsolete, no dealers or NOS parts vendors have any.

You use the starter hole, there are no removable covers.

thats what im looking for but isn't there supposed to be an inspection cover at the bottom of that plate so you could drain the torque converter and get to the bolts.

Some engines in some years by some manufacturers have that feature, but apparently not here.

I have a 400, too, but with a stick shift and therefore don't have to worry about that.

Do you think one for a 460 would be alright for the 400. from what i have read the bells are the same and both would be for the c6

All I can say for sure is that they're different part numbers, and even THEY are different!

E3TZ-7007-C - 460 years 1983/87 - Marked: E3TE 6A373-AA
E8TZ-7007-A - 460 years 1988/ - Marked: E7TE 6A373-GA

No idea what the differences are, all I know is they're different part numbers.

My 460 engine plate has a cutout on the bottom to access the torque converter bolts for the automatic transmission. I belive you have the plate (or are looing at) the one for the manual transmission.

I think you're probably right... The OP asked about a "block plate for a 400 with a c6" which is confusing, I've never heard of a "block plate" but he described what he's doing and looked at the parts catalog, that spacer plate thing in the picture I posted earlier was the first thing to come to mind based on his description.

It now appears that plate is used on any manual transmission.

I should mention again, I also have a 400 but with a T18, I've never really seen much less disassembled a 400/C6 combo.

So.... looking at the pictures of the C6, the OP might instead by referring to 7986, the torque converter housing cover:

C8SZ-7986-A COVER (CONVERTER HOUSING) Fits 351M, 400, 460 engines

Dennis Carpenter Concord Ford, Tel. 704-786-8139 has 10 of them.

Sorry for any confusion, but I still don't see anything that could be described as a "block plate" with a C6, just the torque converter cover that fits onto the housing.
