And here is the engine sitting in place. Nice thing about it, I didn't need to clearance any of the firewall, or transmission tunnel. I haven't any pictures of the transmission crossmember because I haven't made it yet. But I have the transmission held up temporarily at the angle I want. I just placed the engine in the make sure it clears. Now my next step is to take it back out and clean up the fire wall. I am going to weld that gray plate in and fill alot of these small holes that are used for anything.
This is where I am at for now, this week I have had alot of assignments in school. Hopefully after this week things will slow down. But as you can see the easy part of this swap is coming to a close. The hard part is going to be getting this thing wired and running. EVERYTHING is electronic. I am trying to use the ram harness, and ram everything else. I just have my fingers crossed, oh and it doesn't help that I don't have a key FOB for this thing either. Thats going to be a headache. So let me know what yall think.
I, for one, am a huge fan of Ford trucks....have 5 old dentsides that will eventually be turned into one or two streetable rides. For one of them I have a Chevy LQ4 6.0L motor complete with ECM, harness and all the accessories that I got for $1500. I can't build the original 400 into a decent powerplant for anything close to that price.
This is an easy swap and there are several companies that even make a stand alone harness for it. The EFI chevys are some of the most reliable and powerful engines in stock form that exist. The one I found has 90K miles and runs like a champ.
Now, if I don't raise the hood, nobody will know what it's powered by.
Great looking project and kudos to you for undertaking it. Nice planning and fab work too.
Best of luck with it!
I'm an originallity nut as witnessed by my own build, but that doesn't mean I can't/don't appreciate someone who "thinks outside the box".
Your truck looks great and I'm looking forward to more instalments on your progress.
Nice work .
i like your can of "soda".......i bet that is gonna be one mean street ride when you are done good luck with all your wiring endeavors.....i am so glad it's a hemi not a chevy (i'm not racist i just hate chevy's)
I originally wanted to put a modular ford power train in my truck but then this Hemi came along with only 10K miles and I thought about it for two full seconds before deciding to go ahead with it. I hate seeing small block chevys in almost everything when I go to a car show. Now the late model engines of any type I enjoy. Modular, Hemi, LS style. Even the foreign stuff. I like the new ones.
I think it looks good FWIW. You already saved it from the crusher once and learned a lot and gained enough confidence to take on this project. I wish I could have done something similar back in the day. I would probably still have a 'stang, Gran Torino and/or Fairlane.
I'm having a ton of fun learning on my 150 though.

Look forward to watching the progress.
Yea through out the years my projects have been getting more and more involved. I've built sub frames for unibody cars and things like that but this is the first time I've ever sectioned a frame and put in a newer section. So yea it's always a learning experience.
Schickel and hivoltj, yea I have to use this wheel/tire combo for now. I had 15x10 outlaw II's on all four corners before. They had almost 6 inches of backspacing and those stuck out just maybe a half inch. This new ram rearend is about 1 7/8 inches wider on each side but the wheels have much less backspacing. So I'm not sure if they will stick out or not but I don't have a choice right this second because my outlaw II's aren't big enough to clear the new brakes. Later on though I would like to get some 17's or 18's. These are 20 inch wheels and I don't really care for it myself. But we'll just have to see how it looks once I have everything buttoned up.
At first I was thinking wth? Hemi in a Ford... But it looks good sitting there, and I like the Fordge comment from Hio
I'd clean up that 9", regear and disc it just so it looks good underneath.
Gonna be an awesome shortbox!
