I have a quick question, I have the Isspro EV2 transmission temp gauge setup. Lately, I've been noticing my trans temps getting hot, in situations that shouldnt be causing heat buildup.
In the past, driving without a trailer, going down the highway, at say 85 degrees outside, showed a 150ish temp. The other day, I went on a hour road trip, temps were around 150 or so, next time I looked it was reading 190-200, I found that odd. Hooked up the trailer the other day, pulled a decent load, and temps hit 230.
Pulled over, looked at the oil on the stick, still bright red, smelled good, all is good. Transmission shifting fine....
Today, driving around, no trailer, no load, temps went to 190, drained some oil from the external filter, stuck a thermometer in the oil, thermometer said 125. Used a different temp probe, said 123 degrees. Now looking at the gauge, with a totally cooled off transmission, 60 degrees outside, its showing over 100.
Is this a sensor problem, gauge problem, or wiring problem? Where to start?
Interesting.. I dont imagine that being a gauge problem.. Maybe sending unit? Either way subscribing to see where this goes.
If you can, get a new sending unit on there. I think they use the same one for several gauges so look into that.
Also, Joe should be here soon. He will see the thread title and hop right in.
I've had a few EV2s for about a year and a half - but I have many years of experiences with sensors, probes, and gauges in industrial applications. This sounds like the sensor itself, but a loose connection anywhere can cause something like this as well. I'd re-inspect every connection you've got to make sure they are clean and solid before exposing your wallet to daylight. Verify connections are correct while you're at it - light dimmer out from the dash to the 12V in on the gauge would be disappointing.
I know it isnt mis wired, because my gauges have been installed for about 2 years, and they worked fine, including the transmission temp. I'll go pull the electrical connection off the sender, clean it up and see if anything changes. One thing I did notice, was the needle would go up and down about 10 degrees over about 10 seconds once, that may be a sign of something.....freaked me out seeing 230 degrees on a new transmission.......but was a relief to know this reading may be off by 50 degrees.
