Just got a 99 7.3 truck to use for part's but wanted to try and get it running.Thing is i bought it without a computer. They said it was bad pulled it and never fixed it or got a computer for it.So it's MIA.How could i find out what one was supposed to be in truck? It's build date is 03-98 auto truck.
Or should any computer run it from say my 96 or 97 truck
Thank's John
you will need one from 99-03
is it auto or a zf6 trans xl xlt la? that will make some differences.
but if all you want to is just start the truck any pcm will work from a 250-550
3/98 truck would most likely be an XLE4 pcm, but like Matt said, and 99-03 auto trans pcm will work.
The 96-97 pcm has single shot injector tuning. The 99 has split shots.
Maybe I'm wrong but if the build date is 3/98 than that's a 1998. After 6/98 would be a '99. Right?
There was no 98's built. 98 was the year they retooled the line for the superduty. My 99 has a 4/98 build date. It's what people refer to as an early 99.
This might help you reference the DPC family or PCM code you are searching for. As Matt and Frank said any PCM with the correct trans will work from 99-03
