I know just what you mean, my BMW headlights have superb pattern and brightness.
My driving lights help out quite a bit on high beams, low beam pattern still sux. Really I think that the truck is in need of headlight replacement with HID projector headlamp assembly.

These project a lot more than 20 feet. They swivel a little up and down and the car wash puts them out of adjustment. I have seen the light in the trees quite a distance. not much but say 200 feet. Since light falls off at the inverse of the square it would be 4 times brighter at 100 feet and 16 times brighter at 50 feet. That combined with a new set of
SYLVANIA SILVERSTAR bulbs , it was quite an improvement.

that way they turn on/off with the brights.. I still wonder where all these people are coming from headed into town at midnight and later.. I know I am going home.. out of town.

which lights did you use?

Sam
Mine come on and off with the high beams when they are turned on through an up fitter. Low beams and fogs or high beams and drivers. I think they came from NAPA and I didn't install them myself.

I didnt like the HID kit for these headlights, as auto function when shutting down or turning on caused flickering when engine was off. So U replaced with PIA high output halogen. High is terrible as this is a single bulb design. My fogs however, I replaced with 9005 HID, 4300K. Its very good, but I need also a longer beam now.

I think they're 35W Xenon, threw away to box and stuff quite a while back. If you look in that area where I have them mounted, you'll see a hole. I made an L-bracket and bolted it through that hole and then mounted the light it a hole in the L-bracket.

I believe they are called 4" although the housing measures 5" diameter.
