on my 2000 i put some of the clear headlights on from i think the years of 03-06 or around there.the ones with the light diffuser.on mine it looks like that diffuser can be removed so i was thinking about doing this.has anyone removed it and if so how is the light output? i am running hids and they are just not bright enough yet.i used to clear gmc headlights so i know all about splitting the headlights and resealing them and such.but ijust dont want to do it if the light output it a pile.thanks in advance
Let me get this straight, you have HIDs' and they are not bright enough. Is that correct? By diffuser do you mean the little round shield at the tip of the bulb? Just get a set of landing lights and mount them on the front of your X.

well, my last truck had hid lows, highs, and fogs.and the high/low beam setup so all 6 lights were on.it was like the dodger stadium.yes they are bright but im jst curious if this will make them brighter.and yes the little round shield at the tip.and i have a set up fog lights on the way with hids as well but i still want more
That shield at the tip most likely does double duty. It should reflect some light back into the reflector and it provides a cut off for the light so you don't blind people in front of you.
Just leave the shield in place. There is a mod for getting both low and high beams to work simultaneously, I just don't have the time to look it up right now. I would say the best way to get what you want is to go with the add-on lighting. Remember that there are state laws concerning the number of lights and their placement.
I have HID's and there is PLENTY of light. Did you get the HID's with the blue tint. If so that may be the problem. I went with HID's that have max light output and not the blue tint. I want to say 4.3k. Did you get the Bi-Xenon's.
i went with the 8000k.im a dealer for hids around my town and honestly unless you go to the 10000 and above there is really no difference in output, just color.at least to the human eye.im going to take an oem set and try on those and if it turns out decent then ill do it.thanks guys

There's 1/2 your problem. Stay under 5k for more useful light. The other 1/2 is the focus of the HID bulb in a housing not designed for it. I ran 80/100 watt Hella bulbs in my clear-lens '03 headlites for years - awesome lighting w/o punishing other drivers. When that wasn't enough, the aircraft landing lites come on - they are so brite, the reflectors on street signs are annoying, but they put circles on distant mountiansides... (and they are 100watt sealed-beam technology!!)
I have 6K on both Fogs and Headlights and they are plenty bright and yes the reflectors and street signs get illuminated so bright after awhile it gets annoying.
