Changed oil and fuel filter saturday. No leaks oil or fuel. Fuel filter cap blowing diesel when wife bring truck home from work monday. I take fuel filter cap off to inspect, had bevel end down, turned bevel up then tightten and no leaks. No leaks tuesday several checks and stops she made. On way home it is leaking again.
Beveled gasket bevel faces up or down??
I bought a different brand before the gasket was flat with no bevel.Any suggestions on brand of filter to get with the flat gasket?
yes i tightened fuel filter cap both times. I've tried not tightening real tight and it always leaks, so i am tightening fuel filter cap real tight.
The brand i.m using comes from auto zone. I dont know that brand name off of my head.
I need a flat gasket new filter.
And do i tighten almost as tight as i can?
This always happens when i'm out of town.
She noticed it leaking and hoped she could make it home, as she drives right by my mechanics shop. Now she's stuck at home with fuel filter leaking and all off diesel leaked out of tank.
Why would she not stop at mechanics shop??
I dont need an answer to that, I jus wanted to bitch!!
Thanks for your help guys....

I know it seems like a silly question but......did you take the old gasket off or is it trying to seal with TWO seals in place? Easy to forget to take off the old gasket. The big part of the seal goes down and the small tapered part goes up. I like to put mine on the fuel filter cap before I put the cap back on but some like to do it with the gasket sitting on the fuel bowl. Everyone has thier own way to get er done.

Yes I did take the old gasket off to try and determine which way the bevel went. The old one was flat as a pancake.
OK Motorcraft it is. Do they come with a flat washer?
Or at least it will have directions.
Thanks...
I just know that with motorcraft I open the package to let the seal get back to the original shape since it is packaged in plastic and is slightly bent. The motorcraft gasket is beveled. Not any problems with the oem gaskets that I have seen on this forum except for the people that said that they left thier original gaskets in place and the gaskets ended up doubled. I purchased my oem from dieselorings.com here Racor PFF4596 Replacement Fuel Filter Element for 1999-2003 Ford 7.3L Diesel
