changed my fuel filter a little bit ago, put new gasket and o-ring on and drained bowl... started her up and there is fuel pouring out the bottom of the truck!! any thoughts?
Did you get your filter at Napa, or somewhere else that private labels Wix filters? If your new filter didn't come with a beveled gasket, then you need to coat the almost flat gasket with engine oil to prevent it from leaking.
Also make sure the rubber gasket from the old filter did not come off the bottom of the filter and stay in the fuel bowl. Two gaskets in the bottom will prevent you from being able to tighten down the lid properly.
got the filter from the dealership and the valve is closed. took the lid back off, and the gasket seemed seated fine checked the old filter and the bottom o-ring is still on it im going to start it again and see what happens....
this is no leak man, its pouring out like on the passenger side of the truck! had hood open just now and started her up and it's poring out on the ground and even went over the side panel, it sprayed up over the passenger side rear hood vent and a little on the window
I would have to agree with the others, Lid/gasket not seated right.
Or what i have seen in the past:
The filter drain lever. Just below that there is a rubber hose about an 1" long. It attaches to the metal tube that runs down the front of the motor and to the back of the water drain valve. I have seen were someone had plugged the metal tube down below. (probably cause it leaked) and it blew off the rubber hose on top.(which has no clamps on it) All because the o rings in the water drain were shot.
ok i will change the o-rings in the morning, dan thanks for the link, thats alot of fuel coming out the side there for two little o-rings its like the valve is not closed at all. the fuel went all over the place. what should i do to clean it up? just let it dry out on its own?
When the truck is running or when the key is on? If it is when the truck is running it would seem to be after the fuel bowl. If when the key is on the fuel pump is keeping the fuel pressurized.
Your fuel bowl only has pressure when the truck is running, so it wont leak much while off. I am betting on Orings, or a cracked water drain assembly (not the bowl, but the little plastic handle assembly). After you repair, spray some simple green on the engine and then rinse with a LOW PRESSURE garden hose. Do not fire up the pressure washer and think you will get it cleaner, faster. You will end up getting water in sensor plugs and have a bigger headache than a fuel leak.
PS dont get the simple green on your paint, it will strip the wax off and can dull your finish.
i turned the switch and nothing seemed to leak, but when she's running look out, it comes out on the passenger side like it would if you drained the bowl, but with alot more force.
