click noise - no start

Everyone,

Got in my truck after work, excited to go home and drink a beer, turned the key and click... no start.

I'm thinking it's the starter solenoid going bad. Battery voltage is still showing high and are fairly new, so it shouldn't be the batteries.

I'm only hearing one click when I turn then key. I kept trying and like the 20th time I finally got the truck to turn over. Am I correct thinking that the starter is going bad??

Thanks!!

before condeming starter be sure to check battery cable connections . be sure to clean and tighten them . Battery volts can be good and batts not ,one needs to do a load test to determine battery health. you may also have less than 12 volts to solenoid you can check with a volt meter at the solenoid.you can also jump the solenoid (jumper wire) to verify solenoid operation. hope this helps

On my overnight test drive I had that happen. I got stuck at a hardware store,
That is what saved me. I got a wrench and a brass brush. It was a loose
connection on the passenger side battery that was the problem. Cleaned it
all up and made sure it was tight. Truck started right up.
I made it part of the deal that they would replace the cables and the batteries
it they turned out to be tired.

How would I jump the solenoid if the battery cables is not the problem? Do I just run a wire from both connectors on the starter/solenoid?

If I am reading this right the solenoid is built into the starter.
The only thing outside is the relay.
