Well James, I don't know about the auto enginuity but I have the Aeroforce and like it. It will do some diagnostic's and read & reset codes. Your gauge will work, you'll have to get a hydraulic hose attached to it and a fitting that will fit in one of the ports in the HPO rail. There are four of them on each head, only two are used by the HPOP. What I did eight years ago before I had the Aeroforce is I got a hose long enough to stick out of the hood at the crowl so I could see it on a test run. I didn't latch the hood down, but tied it so it would not pop up. You should see up to 3000 psi at WOT.

You must be talking to Glenn here, because my truck is far (FAR) from a looker. Believe me inside and out it is ROUGH! It is a workhorse and my DD but it needs body work BAD!

As far as the AE or Scangauge goes, yes AE is definitely more of a diagnostic tool. The scangauge will do most of what you need for these trucks and gives the added benefit of giving you on the fly readings of all kinds of stuff. Plus it costs about half of what AE does. It's a good deal, but it is still close to $300...

As far as the mechanical gauge goes, you already have the gauge you need, so I think about $30 in hose and fittings will give you the tool you need to troubleshoot the HPO system. Here are the details:

You might spend $60 or so on high pressure hose, fittings, and a quality 0-3500psi liquid filled gauge, but having this hose available for future diagnostics will make it worth it.

The hose which you will need will need to be about 40" long, rated for
(minimum) 3000psi working pressure (12k psi burst rating!) with the gauge on
one end, and a #6 female JIC swivel fitting crimped onto the other.
You will also need an individual fitting to screw into the head to go from the
head to the hose. This single fitting will be a 90 degree fitting # 5 "male boss" (sometimes called #5 o-ring) on one end of the 90, and a # 6 male JIC on the other end of the 90.

Using a 5/8" wrench, remove any one of the HPO galley plugs, and install the 90deg fitting into the hole. (save the plug for reinstallation , after testing). The O-rings are reusable, unless brittle, cracked, etc... The single 90deg fitting will have a "jamb nut" on the O-ring side...screw the
fitting into the head, "aiming" the 90 away from the turbo, intercooler pipes,
etc...and then tighten the jamb nut, to "squish" the O-ring also locking the 90
from "spinning" around as you attach the swivel end of the hose to the 90. No
sealants, loctite, or teflon tape are needed on "JIC" or O-ring fittings...and
don't overtighten them...usually about 180degrees with a wrench past finger tight.

I didn't come up with that myself so I don't want to take credit for it, but I saved it with the rest of my PSD notes. I don't remember now who came up with that write-up but many have used it and it works well.

Lol, I am just jerking your chain Glenn. If I ever get another truck it will be a southern truck for sure. Rust is just a part of life here in NE Ohio, but it would sure be nice to start with a clean slate and be able to keep it clean.

When I visit Mi and see all the cancer it makes me ill. I'm sure its already been invented but I think of a fancy garage that you drive in and when you park it jet sprays of water pop up from the floor like springers in a yard. These would be aimed at all those spots where salt and dirt collect under the truck. Most of the rust comes from the inside and works its way out. This garage would be one of the ! percenters! LOL

low power/ sluggish 97 7.3 psd

I wanted to update you on progress. When I was inspecting the turbo intake wheel I noticed the OEM orange intake boot was tired and cracked. It was not leaking air but it was tired. I ordered in installed the new Riffraff intake boot as well as the 2 Y pipe boots. In this process I notice the Turbo exit O-ring was badly crushed. Darn dealer recall technician. Anyway after all was replaced the motor easily revs to near red line with a noticeable power improvement. Still not like when new but better

Anymore / different tips to getting back to original power with this new info? Is the scanner still a top priority? I’m not trying to be cheap on the scanner just have to pay for the new A/C first.

Without your help I'd given up and sold my favorite truck! Thanks!<O
