Last weekend my son and I were headed down the Blue Ridge Parkway for a hike. Went to start the X to leave and the engine cranked really slow but started, guages reset, tach, speed peged twice and ABS stayed on for a couple minutes but then went out. Did the hike and the X started right up. No problems during the week. Went camping this weekend with youngest son, went to leave Sunday morning and the X again was slow cranking but started(thanks X for not stranding me 50 miles from anything resembling an auto parts store) the thief light was flashing fast for about 2-3 minutes but then stopped. Going in to have the battery tested this morning, hoping thats it is in fact a bad battery. Checked the one in the X and made date of Aug 04 so it is getting up there, the battery is over powered, the manual calls for a BXT 65-750 the one that is in the X has a cca of 850 and a cranking amps at 32F of 1000, seems a bit large for my area where it really doesn't get that cold for long periods. What is everyone running in thier X, good/bad luck with batteries they have used. Doing the dome light off switch soon too
Battery died on my pickup this spring. Not sure on the date, but it was at least 2003, and possibly as old as 2001. Wally world. I've had good luck with those over the years.
To the OP, I would change the battery out regardless of how it tests based on age and your symptoms.
Don't care how good the battery brand is some batteries will still have trouble. (I went through 3 red-top optimas before getting one that would last more than a year.) So, that being said, the MOST important thing in a battery is locations that can replace battery under warranty.
In my mind, there are only 2 places that can do this with ease at almost any location you might be at (Even on Sunday) all across the nation. Wal-Mart and Auto Zone.
I prefer Auto Zone with their $20-off-after-five-$20-purchase card.
Don't have the truck any more but had a 1996 f super duty(450) 7.3 diesel and traded it in for my first excursion in 2007, and they were original motor craft batteries,, 11 years ain't that bad.....
i had the same issue .. check the charging system .. i.e. check with a vold meeter that you are getting 14.5 volts to the battery terminal and not just to the batery conectors . i had this same issue .. turns out the terminal was dirty and the cables were not making contact with the battery
