This product was advertised on one of the Sunday morning truck shows and I am looking for advice from the forum members.
Has anyone installed on a 6.7?
Will it deliver desired effects as advertised? i.e., MPG, warranty.
Pros and cons?
I am not looking for increased horsepower gains but the idea of higher mpgs and lower temps does appeal to me.
My first hesitation would be using it with the emission junk.
The truck deliberately creates high EGT's to clean the exhaust filter.
If you introduce a combustion coolant, I imagine the truck would compensate with extra fuel, so I don't see how that could save any fuel in the long run.
If your tuned and deleted, it might work good, but there could also be an issue with airflow, as diesels are not designed like gas engines where the air/ fuel mix needs to flow evenly in all cylinders.
You could get more meth in some cylinders than others, and your EGT's could drop, but the EGT is an average of all cylinders, so you could potentially burn up a piston even though the EGT's look good.
Cost is another factor. The thing costs $1000. If you get 18mpg and it increases the mileage by 3mpg, as they claim, at $4/gallon you're saving about 3cents/mile. Realistically, if it works at all, you'll probably only get around 1mpg increase...maybe. Which translates into about 1cent/mile. How many miles do you drive a year? Because you'll have to drive 100K miles to make your money back.
Those are fairly accurate MPG numbers when empty. I do tow heavy about 50% of the time, which is where i was hoping to lower the EGT's. The mileage would have been a welcomed bonus.
I tend to agree with you, at about 25k a miles a year, it would take way to long to recover the initial cost. Plus, I am OK with the DEF fluid but having another hole to pour stuff in might be more than I am willing to take on.
What is the cost of the methanol? Where would you source that?
