I just purchased a 1986 Ford F150 and I'm going through everything and I noticed that my light under the hood does not come on at all. I replaced the bulb and checked the ground and still nothing. Does anyone have any idea or advise. Is there something I'm supposed to turn on to get it to light up?
No, they have a mercury switch that closes the circuit when the hood is lifted.
When I first got my truck it's underhood light didn't work either (bulb & wiring was ok), then after a week or so, it mysteriously started turning on, & has been good since.

You should have 12v to the wire all the time. If you do, do as stated before and remove rivets and check for cruddy wiring..
Sometimes,if someone pulled too hard on the light or stretched it out far it could have broke the wire that rewinds..especially at the end next to the light...Hope this helps...Trav..
