-Looking to see IF a 5.0 (302) engine and 5 speed transmission from an '86 Mustang GT would be a good swap? will the shifter fit through the factory hole in the Ranger's floor? what about an extension? -I've got an opportunity for a real decent running engine and trans...always wanted to build an earlier V8 Ranger.....
Would the 5 speed in a '97 Ranger 4cylinder bolt to the 5.0 Mustang Bellhousing? -wonder if I could use early V8 Explorer motor mounts to do a basic bolt in type deal?? I found a nice, basic '97 Ranger with 5 Speed I can get reasonable.........Thanks Guys!!
Use the Stang convertible mounts, should bolt right up. I think (and I definitely could be wrong here) that the manual trans would be fine but you may have to lengthen/shorten the driveshaft. I've been contemplating doing this swap also, but with a c4 auto trans (easier to find and cheaper). Good luck.
If going to a V-8, best by far to use a V-8 trans. Normal T-5 will put the shifter about 7-8" behind where it is now. Several have done the S-10 tailshaft conversion that puts it back to normal location. Real good write up here for your swap, the '98' Rangers are even easier.
