I'm doing some research on doing a 5.0 conversion on my 4.0 Ranger. Basically, I just want some opinions as far as the work I will have to under-take. Please see my list of questions and help me to answer them to the best of your knowledge. As you read the questions, you might think they are stupid questions. I appreciate your answers and opinions anyway for I have never done this conversion on a Ranger. Thank you in advance.
My Ranger is a 99. Does that mean I have to put in a 99 5.0 motor in it? Or can it be 99 and newer?
I've been told that if I find a 99 Explorer with a 5.0, it will be a perfect doner car with all of the excessories provided. Is there another ford similar with the 5.0? (ie. F-150...)
Can I use my PCU or do I have to use the PCU out of the 5.0 doner car?
More than likely, I will be converting from an Auto tranny to a 5 speed; but in case I don't do that conversion, will my 4.0 liter, auto tranny bolt up to the 5.0?
Can I use the 4.0 liter motor mounts or do I have to use the 5.0 Liter motor mounts?
I'm sure more questions will arise from me, but for now; I thank you for your input. Take care

You can use any 5.0 you want. Just get all the wiring under the hood and the computer and stuff with the motor.

Yes finding an explorer with a 5.0 would simlify the process. But as stated above any will work as long you get all the stuff. Alot of people have used the mustang 5.0 for this swap.

Get the one from the donor.

No you will need a transmission that bolts to the 5.0. The 4.0 transmission is a different bolt pattern.

Again I am not sure on this one. I used my 2.9 mounts in my ranger for a short time until I could buy the 302 mounts and motify my cross member.
Search this fourm not to long ago there is a post called "swaping a 302 into a 88 ranger" I think. It has a couple of web sights that will be helpful in this swap. also do a search on yahoo or google for 302 ranger swap and you will get tons of information.
Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it. I've talked to several people about this research and I've received more information than I can handle. Thank you again.
