Its time to do some upgrades to the old truck (257k 96 5speed f350) I bought the truck few years back and it need injectors so I replaced them with beans stage 2 now after 5000 miles put on her in 2 years its time to finish all the upgrades. My big question will be the turbo but here is a list of what I am getting for sure... I will be doing guages, stelth hpop, intercooler and a chip from beans, already have a 3 inch down pipe, and 6637 airfilter. So my question would be do I get the d66 from beans and keep it obs or do I go 99.5+ and get a gtp38r? Im only looking for the best bang for my buck with the stage 2 injectors stelth pump and chip. I dont ever plan on going any bigger. I dont race but I do tow 10k or less. My big question is will the d66 be the limiting power factor? I want to get the most out of the stage 2 injectors. either way i plan on doing a SD intercooler so it would almost be just as easy to get the pedistol and the gtp38r and its not that much more then the d66. but ive searched and searched and cant seem to find a answer of how the d66 and gtp38r compare to eachother with stage 2 injectors, hpop, chip and intercool. Or is it best to get the hypermax turbo. I dont have an unlimited budget but I want to keep it all under $6000. Lastly what could I expect power wise after all the upgrades ive seen 350-450 so im just looking for a better number than that.
thanks
ps is there anything else I should be doing or did I get it all
Sounds like a lot of fun! If I had a budget of 6k, I personally wouldn't be looking at the D66 or GTP38R. I'd be looking into a t4 mount and something like the S366. This gives you many different turbo options. You can contact jake at irate diesel for a complete kit for turbo, intercooler pipes and up pipes. Another thing you're going to want to do is e fuel, but with some smart shopping, you should get everything you want and easily be in the 400hp range.
I agree with everything Todd said Pave. I run the D66 and am happy with it but I don't feel that the exhaust side is big enougn to keep my EGT's down pulling my 5er. I'm going with the s366 this winter, Fordpride is looking into maybe getting Jake to do a 'group' buy. Stay tuned!
Ok so I looked around on the irrate diesel web page. seem to like there stuff ive never heard of them but looks and sounds like good products. so my question would be if I bought one of there turbo mount kits should I get the superduty kit? says its complete with everything but the turbo. ( i think i would still need the actual intercooler itself since its not in the picture. Ill call down there monday and see what they say. second would you recomend the s366 over the S467FMW I know its twice the price but would it be worth it? ive seen the t500 hpop before but whats the difference between that and say a stealth or adriniline or are they all the same just differend priced?
Im ok with a little fab work. Any write ups or build threads with the s437? Who should I go with to get a good chip to fit all the mods vrs a generic tune?
nice that looks real good. to bad I cant see the firewall in that picture. wonder how much he took out to fit it
The above pics are of my truck. The section of the firewall you see cut and pushed up is the width of the whole turbo, from exhaust side to compressor side. Both housings are pretty dang big and hit the firewall. Once you get the firewall up out of the way, it's not a big deal.
Just take a cut off wheel on a die grinder to it, cut in a rectangle leaving the front edge intact. Push it back enough to fit the turbo, then the firewall insulation will cover most of it back up. If any portion of the firewall that you cut isn't covered up by the factory insulation, get you some kind of insulation and cover the rest up to keep water out of the engine bay since the part you cut open collects rain from the cowl.
I wouldn't hesitate to do an S400 series charger again. Sure, they are bigger and require modification, but a lot of my frustration was caused by my mounting kit (I didn't use an Irate mount). Mine takes a fuzz longer than a stock charger to spool, but once it's rolling it's all over. Plus, I tow around the same weights as the OP and can tow in my drag race tune while keeping EGTs under control if I want, but you can tell it's too much power to be towing with. When I tow, it's usually around 10k and in my street race tune EGT's will stay around 1000* pulling hills around 8-10psi boost @ 75mph and tons of power to play with. I can get EGT's up to 1100* if I pull hills at 80-85*.
EDIT: Once again it should also be noted that if you get the Irate kit, you will probably need to modify the downpipe to fit. Also, the S467 should spool a little faster than my 466. i THINK the FMW compressor wheel on the 467 is a little lighter than mine, so it should get going a little quicker depending on how the exhaust side is set up. My turbo has the 83mm turbine wheel and a .90 housing and it spools right at 2000 RPM. It will start building boost down around 1400-1500 RPM, but it builds slowly from there up to 2000. Pulling a load it spools a little easier and although the turbo won't build full boost til your above 2000 RPM, towing below 2000 RPM isn't a problem. I can still pull a load cruising at 1800 RPM and hold speed pulling hills.
I called and talked to jake down at irrate. pretty cool dude. He recomended the s366 vrs the s467 do to the fact it spools faster. I think im leaning towards the s467fmw just so if i plan on jumping up injectors I can and will not max out the s366 and have to upgrade the turbo also. I might be able to sell my stage 2s to a friend that needs injectors. what do you all think s366 or s467fmw?
