First Trip After Repairs

Hey Guys,

Well last weekend I took off with the 5er in tow and headed out on a short trip, put about 300 miles on the truck with a good 50/50 city highway, loaded and unloaded.

As most of you know I had upgraded the injectors to 155's with 30% nozzels, added a Power Max Turbo, and had Matt udate the tuning. I have to say that with the 5er and this combo the truck really performs awesome, the power was a lot better, throttle response was great, and fuel mileage hand calculated was 16.6...on my first trip with the stock injecotrs and turbo I could only average between 10-12.5 mpg towing the same trailer. The trailer may have been heavier because we went for a week as opposed to 4 days but I would say not by much.

So I would say that anyone who would worry about this combo not being ideal for a truck that works I say it works for me. I cant wait to take a longer trip with it and see how it goes. I guess this really confirms that this truck will be parked in my driveway for a long time comming.

I guess I will really think about putting the money into doing a dually conversion since Ive just about got this thing right where I want it. Im going to try switching back to the BFG All Terrain TKO's to try and get the stability back before I do any hard research into the dually conversion.

Thanks for reading and I hope this helps someone out.

That's an awesome mpg report, why did you go with larger injectors?

Well I kinda left it up to my injector builder as to what I should go with. I was all set to do a stock injector with new nozzels, but after talking with Matt @ GearHead and the injector builder, they said it was a good injector especially coupled with the Power max. I was skeptical but glad this is the route I went.

My next step is to call PHP and see if the Atlas 40 would put too much fuel to the injectors or if they would be ok.

And yes I am cetainly happy with the 16 mpg for sure, its the best this truck has ever done with 13k in tow.

Sarge,
Congrats on the first run, i remember what that felt like the first time i took our 5'er on a trip after buying the Diesel (had a V10 prior) & of course throwing some $$ under the hood. What a pullin monster the 6.0 can be
I read that u want to get back to BFG Tires so i thought i post what i recently installed on mine....

"18x9 XD series Wheels wrapped in 305/65/R18 BFG All-Terrain T/A KO's (almost 34 inch's Tall & 12 inch's Wide)"

This is like my 4th set of BFG A/T T/A KO's & the 2nd set on a SuperDuty.
They ride great, are not noisy & very stable while pulling thanks to a 10 ply sidewall (load range E) & u can air them down to just a few psi to crawl through just about anything if needed

BTW: mine is a F250 @ stock height (as far as i know) & these were the biggest i could get under there with NO rubbing in any situation

Nice wheels! Are they 9" or 10" wide?

That is the exact size Im looking at. I am going to run them on a set of 11 Lariat Take offs that I currently have the 285/65/18s on...they just look dinky with the leveling kit.

Sounds like you've almost got the old girl dialed in on the money and the combo is working great for you.

Yup,

The wife and I had a serious talk now that it will be 7 years old on Nov. 5 we were real close to trading it, but I couldnt come to a deal I thought was fair on the 09 KR dually I was looking at and they were only going to give me 15k for my truck.

Granted I was looking at a 09 KR dually w/19k on the clock but I felt that 46k was way too much consdering I could order a new 13 xlt for just about that much. It came down to payments, and not having any now made it real easy for me, combine that with the fact its running so good now, and it pulls like a raped ape, Im just gonna stud it, and if and when I feel the need for a dually Im gonna convert it. I think the BFG's will make the difference and that will cure the squishy feel I have now.

Now Im just tossing around the whole EGR delete thing too, and a FASS or Air Dog.

Kingranch....... how do you get at your hubs with these wheels on? Aren't those center caps permanently fixed unless you remove the entire wheel to take them off?

Actually they pop off quite easily, the plastic cap is very durable & it has fingers w/a steel spring band that holds it in place. While this truck will hardly ever drive through anything that requires more "lock" than the hub's provide on auto mode, i figured id rather cover them up but they are easily removed if needed.

P.S..I had just responded to your P.M.
