so i have just recently blown the head gasket on my 1989 f250 and my parents just decided to replace it with the stock 302 in it, ive got the new engine in it and i dont want to have to buy a 460 for are there any builds that will get me more power out of my 302, should i get different heads and crank? should i get a different fuel injection system on it?
Changing gear ratios will give you more get up and go, and gt40 heads & intake...intakes only 200 on eBay and headers would help to.. Any combo of what I listed will help..
Can't help wonder what the odds are mom and dad won't let you tear into that new motor?
Quickest/easiest power boost, sell that new 302 to someone wants it, use the cash buy a used but low mileage 351. Should end up with few bucks in pocket left over for goodies go with it, for example nice set of headers and cam kit bring it to life.
thanks for all the comments my pops decided to put the 302 into it i suggested the 460, he drove it with the 302 and he just started complaining how it lacked power.... no dip sherlock...so tweaking the gear ratios and changing the intake will give it a boost... now this might sound stupid wat if instead of a fuel injection system i change it to a carb system... dont actually know if the bolt patterns would match i havent looked at the truck for months...comments suggestions? could i drop more fuel into the engine with a carb or just change it to the gt 40 intake?
Don't even think carb. That's going backwards. Simply adding more fuel wont make it have more power. The 302 simply isn't a powerful truck engine. If anything, new heads, headers, intake and cam. Those are what will make a difference. After that its on to making it a stroker or getting a bigger engine.
Get a set of gt40 or gt40p heads, 1.6 roller rockers, e303 or something similar, even a nice RV cam for a smooth idle, gears, and a stall would make it a little fun truck. I've built a few 302's and last one I but was a budget h/c/i swap and it was a fun motor.
Yeah but you will only find the "P" heads. On 5.0 explorers and mountaineers. They will say gt40p under the valve covers and will have 4 bars on the front of them.
