About two years agao the starter quit working on my 99 F350.
Following this forums advice I had the starter rebuilt by a good shop.
About a year latter the solenoid became intermitent. Some time It would work, some times it wouldn't. Then the relay would just click.
Being away from home base at the time I bought a new unit from NAPA.
Seemed to cure my problem.
Now, about six weeks latter, I am having starter problems again. On the first start on a cold morning (it is getting cold here in Alaska) the starter will grind against the flywheel and not engage. After a coupla tries it works ok and continues to work ok for the rest of the day.
the next morning, if it is cold out side, then it will grind before it engages. If it is not cold outside then it will work normally.
I am again away from home base and have had to order a starter which should be here tomorrow.
I wil borrow something to drive to get to work in the morning. Then I will probably do the starter change in the parking lot where the truck is left over night.
Lets hope it is not raining tomorrow.
so what would make the starter grind against the flywheel when it is cold but work fine when it is warm out?
