A replacement sending unit should be available at most parts stores. Alternatively, as you imagine, you can get an aftermarket gauge (which I recommend anyway).
Well, they sell all kind of various oil gauge, so i thought maybe they do the same for Temp sensor?

Oh, you mean mechanical vs electric.. a mechanical gauge consists of a capillary tube to sample the fluid instead of a resistance-based sensor as with the electrical.
Yeah, water temp gauges can be either mechanical or electric. Your call on which way to go. On the street, most opt for an electric water temp gauge system.
Dunno about yall but I would rather go with electric... pop/burn the capillary tube and ya either end up with hot oil (fire) or hot coolant (scalding?) in the engine compartment or in the cab. On race cars it's not so much an issue since there are fire/safety personnel nearby.
