Handy thing to have to remove the covers
Ford Diesel 6.0 L 6.0L SuperDuty Oil Fuel Filter Socket Ford Diesel 6.0 L 6.0L SuperDuty Oil Fuel Filter Socket | eBay
This socket does also fit the fuel filter cap.
So you don't crack them with an open wrench. Also with an extension you don't
have to be right under the HFCM when you remove the cap.

Thanks! I already got one of those babies...used it to change my oil last time I did it...
Well this was a complete fail. I just left the HFCM filter alone because some rod ( I believe the drive shaft) was in the way so I could barely turn the ratchet. Guess it has to be removed completely?? Then it got worse as I was trying to do the top filter, 2 pieces broke off of it, so now I cant even take the cap off. SMH...now what
Same question for the lower fuel filter.... the main cap or the water drain? You must have 4 wheel drive, eh? It's that shaft that's in the way. To get to the main HFCM filter cap, you just need a longer extension...... go straight back until you can get leverage on it. And when you put new one on, don't over tighten it. Be sure to lube the "O"ring. With white grease NOT diesel fuel.

The top filter I was using an socket extention I had in the toolbox that fit in the opening. For the lower filter I was using the same socket I used for the oil filter...I believe its the 36mm...I got it off amazon. You are right, I do indeed have 4 WD, lol

That is exactly what you should NOT have done!!! Now you get to go buy a new fuel filter cap. Maybe a strap wrench will remove it for you now..... someone really screwed you up by overtightening and underlubricating the "O" rings in both caps.

C'est la vie.....So ok def can tell I need a new filter cap. What kind of tool should I use in the future??
The dealer was the last entity to change those filters...from the looks of it, I will have to get them to change this one, I know nothing about using a strap wrench.
