I have a 2000 F-250 4wd and tonight I was changing out my driver side ball joints and all the seals that go along with the job. I was following along the thread that Racerguy wrote back in '05 and everything was going smoothly till it came time to re-install the snap ring on the axle. No matter what I do I can't seem to get the axle out far enough to expose the groove enough for the ring to go in. I did make my own seal driver for the knuckle seal and don't know if I over-drove something upon re-installation. Any help as to what to do next would be greatly appreciated!
Ok, thanks! I am about to get back to work on it as this is my Sunday so work starts again tomorrow. Is there a way to make sure its fully seated if I pull the hub back off without destroying that seal? The local dealer in town has a price of $60 for that bad boy and I'd rather not have to buy another but also understand it may come to that.
Got it fixed and feeling pretty dumb right now Things tend to go back together better when you put parts on in the correct order. I guess I was tired last night while I was trying to finish up but after coming out to work on my issue and re-reading a couple ball joint how to's I realized I was putting the thrust washer in the wrong area. I put the hub on before installing the washer and was instead trying to install in with the other 3 on the lock ring side. Once I figured this out though went back together smoothly!
