A/C Freezing up

A/C Freezing up
Is there any way to clean out the AC cooling coils? Like get at them with a rag..
There is another thread that talks about ac cleanout, but it suggested more of a deodorizer, or aerosol type fix.
When I turn on the ac, the air is cool, it could be colder, but after about 15 mins air flow from the vents goes way down.
I can put it on max ac, with the fan on 4. It makes a lot of noise but it's blowing almost nothing. If I shut it off for 10 minutes and turn it back on, air flow is blasting strong again.
I'm on a hunch the cooling coils are covered in crap which is insulating them a bit, and they freeze up blocking airflow.
I think the A/C system is ok, I can measure my low side but not the high. Low is at ~30 psi when idling.

I think I'm having the same problem as you.
My A/C works fine, I think its a control unit or blend door problem.
If I switch the **** to MAX A/C it will recirculate the air as intended and cools the truck fine. After a random amount of time the blend door will open and it will start pulling in air from outside. This lowers the air flows and raises the temp of the air coming out of the vents.
I noticed that when this happens the light above the recirculate button goes off. Keep in mind its still set on MAX A/C. If I press the button it goes back to normal for a random amount of time then does it all over again. Some days its a constant battle of pressing the button and other days it wont do it at all.
Still have not figured out why it does this.
FYI..It has not always done this.

Bout all you can do is tape shut all but one vent. Partually tape it shut with a airwand taped too it and blow compressed air back thru the system to hopefully blow the lint caught up on the AC condenser. Doing it several times may free some of the coils back up and over time get rid of more. Were talking a mat about 1/8 inch thick of things like dandolines and cotton wood lint.
This may help you and also see what you are up against if it is plugged.

replace the AC relay; was the problem with mine
I had the same problem with the AC freezing up in my 02 150. It would blow and then stop after 30 minutes; shut it off or change to panel and it would work after some 10 minutes.
After some $200 the mechanic was still stumped; he then went to a mechanic form.
Turned out to be a $16 dollar part. the A/C relay was not shutting off and it began to freeze. Since I had this part added it is working fine.

Had the oportunity to show him what he is up against to clean a clogged AC coil if he goes at it. It would be the last option not the first for sure. It would seem it to be a control problem not a air flow quantity problem? Thin asking what it does on normal setting is a good question for him to answer us.
