Hi guys, I have seen a lot of posts from people saying they converted their 86 f-150s to the Duraspark II system. I thought ALL 86 Fords were DSII systems. I have a 86 F-150 with the 5.8 HO that is DSII with the blue pin on the module mounted on the driver side fender. Were the 302 efi engines a different type of ignition? Curious minds need to know! As I understand, 351 H.O. and 460 were still Duraspark in 1986, other 351s were computer controlled carb and Thin Film Integrated ignition in '86 and I believe the 302 was EFI/TFI by then. Others may have more exact info.
The popular swap you probably keep running into is a truck with the 300 six. There were several years there before they went to fuel injection, that this engine had a computer controlled carb and ignition system.
When it works, it works great. But when you buy these old trucks you will usually find the "get rid of emissions" bandits have taken most everything off, not realizing that they have done a serious labotomy, and the truck's engine will not run correctly. It's very similiar in function to a fuel injected engine, and just think about taking half the stuff off a fuel injected auto and see how it runs.
So most people in this situation convert the engine backwards to the older 300 setup, which did use the duraspark II and a different carb.
