I have a 81 bronco and my windshield is broke. I just spent 135 dollars on a used one from a junk yard because my father said he could put it in for me. Well now my father forgot how to install it and i have no money. Now that i spent all of my money on this windshield i have no choice but to try to install it myself. I called all around but no one will install my windshield unless i buy a brand new one from them, i can't afford that, they all quoted me 300-450$. The only way i can afford that is if i sold my truck, and that doesn't help. I have looked all over for instructions but can't find any. I have had people briefly tell me what to do but i don't understand. So what i desperatly could use is some tips or a briefing as what to do. I know most of you might think i should have someone else do it but i am very poor right now, i am only17 and have no money so that is not an option. Any tips or help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.
Well, got yourself into a good little mess. According to Chilton's, do it yourselfers buy usually purchase up to 4 windshields, because they keep breaking them while trying to install them, its that risky. And the windshields can leak and cause excess noise if installed improperly. They also recommend that a professional do the installation as it is beyond the ability of the typical mechanic, so no instructions. I think you should save your money if all possible and pay the $300. It sounds like a lot, but its cheaper in the long run.
Well, like i said I Have No Money. But i installed it a couple of days ago with a friend. Guess what, no breaks, no leaks, and no noise! It isn't as hard as Chiltons says it is. just takes some common sense. Took me and my friend aprox 1and1/2 hours total. I am glad i diddn't pay a glass company to do it.
Nice job on the install. I've only done one on a '79 and found that putting one in without breaking is a lot easier than taking one out without breaking. Like you said, it's not too hard. If it's held in with the rubber seal, you just need some thin rope, silicon spray, a helper, and a little patience.

Thanks guys.

Sean- I know what you mean, when taking the broken one out I thought it was going to shatter, every movement we made I thought it was going to break, but it diddn't.
