1966 F100 Fuel Tank
hello,
I have a 1966 F100 that has been sitting for around 20 years. It has some old fuel in it that seems to have clogged the lines. This car was painted to be a show car therefore the gas tank and the bolts look showroom perfect. Unfortunately I have to remove it and clean it out. Has anyone ever used por15? I'd rather avoid getting the tank dipped/boiled if possible. I was wondering if anyone has ever used the por15 kits or Rustol (Sudco - Rustol
Also if anyone else has any other good ideas for cleaning it after I remove the tank that would be great.
Thanks!

Por 15 is a great product line, You should do fine with that... Mine was pretty bad in my 64, I tossed in a can of Seafoam, and it cleaned it right out.. but all of the crap that didn't drain out, ended up the following week in the fuel filter... the Plus is that the Seafoam made the engine run better too.. I have since pulled it all out and rebuilt everything, but it lasted for a few years... The first question.. is do you know if it has any rust? If not just clean it, reinstall it and move on...

Welcome to FTE, looking forward to your input, post pic's if and when you can!!
With the tank on my 65 there was no need for the sealer so I just purchased a container of the Por's Marine Klean and Prep/Ready. Don't know if 'simple green' or an automotive 'metal etch', available at most hardware or automotive supply stores, compares to the Marine Klean and the Prep/Ready, both serve the same purpose? I keep a container of Marine Klean on hand, works great for removing grease and grimm just mix to desired strength with water.
Probly best to purchase the kit, found a 'how to' video on subject, imagine there are simular articles/video's.

I mixed a solution of MK and water and poured it into the tank, sealed openings and thoroughly worked the solution, drained and rinsed, then repeated the process. I then mixed a mild solution of metal etch and followed the same process as I did for cleaning. Cut the end off a garden hose, smaller dia. the better, and snaked it into the tank for a thorough flush and rinse. Then let it set in the sun to dry. This was over 10 yrs. ago with no problems since. The 65 has an aftermarket fuel pump so I installed a canaster fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump, a cheap clear plastic inline would serve the same purpose.

cool thanks. Bill by chance do you have a part number for the heater control valve? the one that's cable adjusted and goes between the engine and the heater core... unfortunantly mine is destroyed. I saw some third party ones on ebay, however I wanted to make sure I got one that's gonna last and not gonna be CRAP.
Thanks

I've been to Blue Oval, they're located just south of the 91 freeway, NE section of Anaheim, in an industrial area. There's no name on the building.
I parked the tub (v), then walked around, took me a few minutes to find them. I recall they're located on the south side of the street, entrance is on the east side. Call first.

Thanks,
One more question. I've been to autozone etc, but I can't seem to find a rubber hose thick enough to replace the one that goes from the end of the tank to the outside funnel that you put the gas in through. It's fairly thick and about 4 inches long. Unfortunately I had to destroy mine to get it off. Is there a special order part number for this or should I just try another few parts stores? Any advice? Thanks, I was able to throughly clean the tank with rustol it was just a slight layer of sludge that seemed to hold the rod in place and not allow it to suck fuel up. Also now that I've cleaned the inside do you think I should replace the fuel sender unit to be safe too just in case or should I not worry about it? I have the seat removed as well as a few other parts so I want to make sure I do it right....
