so i've been watching my EOT/ECT deltas for a few weeks now.. on the freeway at ~75mph empty it has been leveling out at 19-21 degrees, 27-29 degrees when towing my trailer. while these are above what is considered normal for a well-functioning oil cooler, i have noticed that on my trip yesterday with no load and ambient temp right around 70* that my coolant temps weren't ever going above 160*...
looks like the tstat begins to open at 190*, but it is normal for the truck to not reach that under normal driving, or am i looking at a stuck open thermostat? if so i have to wonder if i were to be more consistently closer to 190* if my delta would be a little more inline?
The truck should at least hit the mid-180s for ECT no matter what, your thermostat is most def stuck if you're only getting to 160*. (some guys say their new thermostats only hold 186-188, mine has always bottomed out at 188. 190*f is the paper spec for when it should open) TSB 09-8-3 says ECT has to be over 190* for the test to be done correctly.
