I just installed a new coil but still get no fire out of it. I have 12 volts in, but noo fire out??? Is this a distributor issue or the suppreession resistor???????How do I find out?????
I'm running an 89 F250 with an injected 351. I was driving down the road at cruising speeds and she just coasted to the side of the road. I thought it was the fuel system originally however this is where i'm at.
A lot of times ignition modules will fail and cause a shutdown, but it will restart when it cools off. First check to see that the rotor spins when you crank the engine. If it does and you have mo spark, I'd start with the module. I believe it's mounted to the side of the distributor on your truck, if so it is held on by two 5.5mm (7/32") bolts. Remove bolts and pull down on module while wiggling it.
Installed new ICM; had to remove distributor to access ICM. Brought #1 cylinder to TDC and oriented rotor with #1 plug wire. Firing order CCW 13726548. Still not running and developed a fuel leak at the fuel rail bleeder. Going backwards instead of making progress.
On the distributor module plug, check for power on Pin 4 and check for continuity between Pin 5 and the pin the coil that does not have 12v. Also try disconnecting the SPOUT connector to see if spark returns. It's the little two wire connector near the distributor module that just has a plug in it.

Just by chance.........when you turn the key to on (not start), do you hear the fuel pump prime itself for 1-2 seconds then shut off, or, does it run continiously ???
This is a very important question that needs to be answered before you go any further.
Yeah; I hear the high pressure fuel pump prime for a few seconds and then it stops as it should. I also developed a leak at the bleeder fitting on the fuel rail. Needless to say the pump is priming the fuel rail. I also noticed that when I wiggle the distributor cap I can hear either the fuel pump relay or the ECM chattering. I am a bit confused by this because I don't see a link between the two in my wiring diagram. Could I have a bad ground?????
Wiggle the distributor cap or the cap and distributor body?
If the latter that means the PCM is "seeing" a pulse from the PIP (stator) signal. The PCM looks for this signal to keep the fuel pump relay closed. The PIP is also the same signal that triggers the coil via the Ignition Control Module (ICM), and the fuel injector "On" pulse.
