3 Speed Help!

Hi my name is Devin

I recently picked up a running 78 f100 longbed with a 6 banger in it and it has the whole 3 on the tree. I am new into trucks and want to know how i could make it a floor shifter?? Any help would be great.

I'm new to this fourm so if this should be somewhere else just tell me

Get a floor shift kit from an aftermarket parts supplier and follow the bouncing ball.
Instructions are included and be neat about it. You will have to cut a piece out of the floor boards.

Not really a difficult task.

Just measure where the shifter will go through the floor carefully (3 times) before you start cutting.

Greetings and welcome to FTE.

IMO, run it as-is for a while. That is, IF the shifter works OK. I like a floor shifter too, but there are few advantages here vs. a good working column shifter. After you run it a few miles, see how the gearing is. Too high, too low, big gaps between gears? Or is it just right?

If you like it, research the floor shifter and cut that hole in the floor.

If you don't like it, research a later model 5 speed OD trans. If you are going to go through a bunch of work, might as well get as much as you can out of it.
