1979 f150 paint code help

Hi guys, what I want to do is find out what color of green my 1979 f150 has so I can pick up a couple cans of spray paint. I know, I know, why would you spay paint your truck? The truck is in really rough shape body wise and I want to touch it up a bit until I have enough time and money to replace some panels and do a proper paint job. The paint code on the vin tag reads VR. Having trouble posting pics from my phone. It's the truck in my avatar. So what do they call this? Ps I did some searching and just got more confused. Thanks in advance.

So it was originally two tone? Should I be looking for light jade then? The interior color matches the exterior so I didn't think it was painted.

So it's dark jade then? I know it's faded some but under the hood and the interior don't look like yours?

According to your warranty plate, your truck was originally two tone, neither of which your truck is painted now. From your picture it looks to be "Dark Jade Metallic" which would be color code "B" in '79.
Couple of possibilities here, your truck was originally two tone and has been repainted. Look under the hood, under the carpet. Are these areas the same color as the exterior?
Next, the drivers door was replaced with one from another truck and painted to match the rest of the truck but the warranty plate wasn't switched. Pull the drivers door panel and check for different color from body also check the door plate VIN against the frame VIN, it should match.

Ok so I need to find some dark jade metallic paint. As for being painted everywhere that I can see like under the carpet and under the hood and even behind the door panels is the same color of green? Also the vin#plate I was looking at is on the cab side under the door striker? not on the door it's self, maybe I was looking in the wrong spot? Thanks for the help. Its amazing what you find out about these old girls.

Look on the drivers door, just below the latch, there is a metal warranty plate. The first line is the vehicle VIN. The second line has several codes, the first is the wheelbase of your truck, the second is "color" that's the code you need to look at to determine what your trucks color is. My guess is it's going to be "B", dark jade metallic.

The COLOR codes on the VIN tag read VR
VIN tag = Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.

V = Medium Chestnut Metallic.

R = Light Jade.

Sounds good ND I will check for this plate tonight. Although I don't remember seeing any plate or warranty tag on the drivers door.

You said you got the VR COLOR codes from the VIN tag which is what some people call the Warranty Plate.

Glued to the left (drivers) side B pillar below the door striker plate is the Safety Standard Certification Label. Has the Production Date, VIN, GVWR's and possibly the COLOR codes printed on it.

These are the only two possibilities the VR COLOR codes you posted could have come from.

Sorry for the confusion ND I got that paint code from the drivers side B piller under the door striker. What I did not see was a warranty plate on the door it's self. That is what I will look for tonight. The weird part is the paint code does not match the paint color. I can trace the truck back to 1990 and the previous two owners said the truck was never painted. Anyway I suppose in its first 11 years it could have been completely stripped down and totally reprinted , interior included. Just doesn't add up to me. Would being a Canadian truck change things? Also it has the explorer package not sure if that matters.

I thought of that yesterday before I replied and check the Canadian usage, in this case the Canadian codes are the same.
Having an Explorer package wouldn't make any difference either.
