Performance Y pipe

I used this y pipe on my 2003 Excursion. Works nice, I combined it with a Magnaflow low restriction 3" cat and an AP Xcelerator 3" muffler and 3" pipe.
Made a BIG difference in the big tank. Factory Y Pipes : SPD Performance, For all your performance needs!

Yes, removing that restrictive Y-pipe does do quite a bit for the low-RPM throttle response.

Not to hijack this thread, but I've heard so many different people with so many different claims on the actual performance of the Y-pipe on a V10 that I don't know who to believe. Some say it does nothing at all, some say it improves MPG's by a couple some say it did nothing for their mileage. So who do I believe?

What Art said. Did nothing for MPG.

Yup, did nothing for my mileage. Nothing.

Nothing has helped my mileage, Volant CAI, ebay headers, Hedman headers, Magnaflow, nothing.

Airing up the tires, and NOT lugging the engine while not hot-footing does the most for me. I can hit just under 11MPGs on my 44-mile round-trip commute to work in mixed (mostly <45MPH with stop-lights) driving.

If I lug the engine while trying to accelerate trying to baby it, the MPGs go down to 9.5. If I push the go-pedal enough to get it to downshift, even though it accelerates a lot faster, the MPGs go up to high 10s.

But to reiterate, the y-pipe made the engine put out more torque with less throttle, at low RPMs. It did nothing for overall WOT power, nor gas mileage.

I've only been "active" here on the V10 forum for a short while -- 2-3 weeks. But this much I've learned...nothing helps the mileage of the V10 (not headers, not Y-pipe, not intake, nothing) EXCEPT custom tunes from Mike.

Art: do you concur?

I'm not even sure tunes help - I still get 16.1-16.2 on the highway doing this one 500 mile round-trip to/from Upstate NY. Same as before the tunes. Some people say it helps, I'm not convinced. But then, I don't have an econo tune, just 87 perf/93 perf/87 towing.

The one place it DID help was with the 93 octane perf tune and lots of stop-and-go. At one point in my life I wasn't commuting whatsoever, just dropping off/picking up the kids from school. I got a consistent 5-5.5MPGs with the stock tune. Went to the 93 perf tune, and ran 93 octane of course, got a solid 6.5MPGs. The difference in price was more than made up for in MPG increase. And it was much livelier to drive.

I run the 87 performance tune most of the time and my mpg went down some, not up. Maybe with premium fuel and/or economy tune. Anyone who is worried about 1/2-1 mpg or so picked the wrong vehicle.

Just like truckfella i am also new here. Im trying to do my reserch about changing my y pipe. i want to go with the sbd one. from what gather its not gunna change my mpg's but i dont really care about that.. Im mostly looking for more power. Will i get the 30 to 40 hp that they claim? or is a y pipe a waist of a 100 buck??
