Well I ordered some Prestige fender flares last week. I finally had a few minutes to get them installed yesterday. From start to finish the project took about an hour. It could've taken about 15 minutes if it weren't for the 2 piece inner fender liner retaining clips.
My first impression of the flares wasn't good. I thought they seemed cheap, I'm not sure what I expected from a plastic fender flare. They're growing on me. As a complete unit they seem pretty tough.
The first step was to install the stainless steel hardware in the holes which is just for looks. I'm not a big fan of unneeded or fake hardware but it seems like alot of the things out there have it my wheels included.
The second step was to install the gasket. Pretty simple.
The installation itself was quick and easy. The flares came with good instructions which for a good mechanically inclined person are not needed. The rear flares are held on by clips. The front flares are held on by the existing damned inner liner hardware. They're growing on me. I dont love them but I do like them. More importantly they'll protect my paint from melted rubber and stones. Overall I'm glad I got them. The price was a little less than the Bushwackers which was a big part of my getting these. How much different can ABS plastic really be, so I figure your paying design fees and name recognition fees.
Tell me what you think. Good-bad-ugly doesnt matter. Im always more interested in the real opinions.
i'm not usually a big fan of fender flares...but they do look good with your truck/wheel/tire setup..and an added bonus of having a white truck and not having to get them painted
Yeah they came with that finish. You can order these with a smooth finish also for paint applications. I figured the black would be ok. They are quite shiny and I'm hoping that will dull some over time.
Man those look sharp, I like 'em with the black wheels. If your truck was mine, my next project would be the blacked out Recon lenses for the roof/turn signal lights... Just sayin'.
So is the textured finish a paint then, or is it a different mold that produces it? I'm curious if it's a paint, what the finish warranty is because prep is very important in painting ABS.
Matt, the light lenses are in the crosshairs. I been eyeballing them. I'm thinking she needs a little elavation maybe 3-4"?
Cartmanea, the finish isnt paint. The black is the ABS plastic black. There doesnt appear to have any finish applied. I'm curious to see how they wear.
According to their website it's similar to a bed liner material. Maybe they do a full coverage application, front and back, so you don't see it as a coating?
Im fairly certain there is no actual product applied to the plastic. I say this because along the edge and where the holes are you could see and feel a slight burr from production. When they say finish I dont think they are discribing a top coat more just the "hammered" finish appearance?
