Fuse #41 keeps blowing

Hi,
My fuse #41 has blown and any replacement immediately blows. Consequently I have no power windows, stereo, vanity lights.

I've tried replacing the delayed accessory relay (swapped it with the starter relay) but no difference.

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for those circuits (2006 F250 PSD crew).

I gather I could have a loose wire at any of the above locations (dome light, stereo etc.) that's grounding out the circuit. What's strange is - if I put a voltmeter at that fuse slot; it reads 12A to ground.
I tried installing a 15A fuse as a test but that blew immediately too.
So that leads me to think that whatever is blowing my fuses (especially the 15A one) is a faulty load and not a ground. Does that make sense?

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this further?

To compound things - I found a rat's nest in the engine bay over the last few days (he keeps coming back and bypassing my traps). I don't see any evidence of chewed wires but when his cousin came to visit a few months back he chewed through some vacuum tubes. So this new guy may have chewed on stuff too. Just nothing obvious from a good hour of searching in there.

Any ideas? I'm all ears

You cannot measure amperage with a voltmeter, you have to use a ammeter and it must be properly inserted into the circuit in series with the load.

Fuses blow because of excessive current flow in the circuit, usually a fault that cause a "short" circuit. Think of a bare wire touching ground or its equivalent. The fuse is there to prevent the rest of the wiring from burning up.

Most likely, you have a fault in the courtesy lighting circuit: Engine compartment lamp, vanity lamps (if equipped), or the overhead map lights (manual switched) are the most likely suspects. However, when F41 blows, it causes the accessory delay relay to de-energize and the other accessories (windows, audio, panel illumination) loose their power.

Since you have critter habitation problems under the hood, I'd do a very thorough examination of the under hood light wiring first.

Sorry - should have said my multimeter.

You, sir, are a genius. All the while I was poking down in the engine bay looking for chewed wires and the culprit was right above my head. The under-hood wiring was chewed almost completely through. I fixed that and replaced the fuse. Everything's hunky dorey again.

THANK YOU!
