Winter project

Ok so I have read a couple articles on this in the super duty forum but was wondering what you guys thought. I love the look of the step side beds. unfortunatly I have a long bed. There are alot of articles on chopping and rewelding the frame to acheive the correct wheel base to do this. But I dont like that Idea. I feel that I would be safer to knock off the spring mounts shift the axle forward with enough of a lift to clear the lower portinon of the frame without risking the axle hitting it and then cutoff and rework the rear of the frame with no patch work done in that area. Is it just me or does this seem like an easier way of doing it?

I think I would modify a box to make a long bed out of it myself.
