I can't seem to get a straight answer on this...is replacing/repacking wheel bearings required when replacing front brake rotors/pads on a 2003 F-150 4x4? I see some people saying it only gets done on 2WD models, but a few shops I've talked to say it needs to be done on the 4x4 too. The Chilton's manual only has it listed a necessary on the 2WD as well...anyone's thoughts from experience would be much appreciated.
4x4 wheel bearings are a pack in a seperate housing that bolts in from the rear of the spindle.
They can be taken apart but not usually done due to the labor involved.
Might as well replace each side for the total cost of labor/repacking.
I have 177k plus miles and just repalced one side for a pack going faulty.
Doing pads and discs on the front is your job.
No sense in paying labor for that. It's to easy a job.
The rear can be quite a job getting the discs off if you don't have a torch to loosen up the centers.
Also if they have not been off , the EMG lining and hardware needs to be looked at because they come apart and can bind/jamb up with no where to go.
Good luck.
