How many of you have your brake rotors turned or replace them when you replace the brake pads? Reason being, the mechanic informed me that the rear pads are getting low and should be replaced soon. I put new rotors on last time around and have to desire to replace them all over again. Getting them off is also a PITA. Also, how many have changed the parking brake shoes, and how difficult is performing that operation? Thanks in advance.
You shouldn't really need to replace the E-Brake shoes unless you've been riding around with them on A-LOT or they have been binding.
Otherwise they don't wear as all the do is exert force on the drum in a non-moving state.
I got my rear rotors off in less than 15 mins. Just two bolts to release the caliper and off she comes (4WD model). If you've recently replaced them, and they still look good, I'd just slap new pads on.
I agree with others that say if there is no vibration felt when the brakes are applied, skip resurfacing the rotors. I would take emery cloth and roughen up the rotor surface just enough to remove the gloss. This helps to seat your new pads.
