Fuel pump question

Fuel pump question
Hey everyone, I have a 1994 F150 I6 and I had a question about the front and rear fuel pumps. My front tank doesn't work when i flip the switch. I hear the pump but the truck doesn't start so I think it's the sending unit. Anyways I have a complete pump with the float and everything from a rear tank. Would a rear tank pump work for the front tank on these trucks? or are they set up to fit the different shaped tanks? Any help appreciated
