Howdy, I'm replacing and upgrading a couple things in my '65 f-100.
The 352 has an Edelbrock intake, Holley 600... stock cam, one wire 120 amp alternator..
Its not running great, keeps fouling plugs and at idle develops an intermittent lope / miss ...
It also has a Pertronix D7133701 Flame-Thrower Vacuum Advance Electronic Distributor and Igniter III coil. I'm running accel superstock 7mm plug wires,
Fuel-system wise, I think we're ok, was wondering if these wires are up to the task?
Those wires should be fine. If you're uncertain, try idling the engine at night and look under the hood for any jumping sparks.
The other thing you can try is pulling one of the wires on the fouled plugs while idling and see if it changes.
Is it possible that the carburetor is not working properly? I had an engine that did what you described, and it was due to a leaking gasket between the power valve and the carburetor body. The combination was very similar; Holley 600 vacuum secondary on an Edelbrock F4B manifold on top of a 302.
Thanks for the hint on old sparky.. The carb has been the prime suspect all along, its brand new, but in the world of carbs, that means nothing. I'll try the power valve diagnoses tomorrow. A busted power valve is open all of the time, making the engine rich at idle and part throttle. The check for blown-out power valves is to the idle-mixture screws all of the way in. If the engine starts and idles without stalling, its leaking.
It was actually 1-3, and guess what?, brand new holly, leaking like an old bucket, it was drowning that whole side. A buddy of mine came by with the exact same carb, we strapped it on..
Smooth as silk. I'm not going to fix it, givin its 2 weeks old, I'll either send it back or have it replaced.
So yet again I was chasing my a**, so you guys were on the right trail while I was off on a snipe hunt.
Thanks....
