Built my own, probably didn't save a dime, but I built it. That's gotta make it better...
I did a complete flush when I put it on, and haven't really found a whole bunch of stuff in the filter since.
Built my own too, I didn't want mine sitting on top and hoses running on top of my engine , so I tucked it in down by the windshield washer fill tube and battery. Check out my build pics on my user page. Click on albums
Dfuser performance diesel. Just a normal Baldwin filter base with all the hardware you need. It's not pretty anodized blue bling, but it comes with all the parts for almost exactly what you could find them all on their own for (a lot cheaper than if you buy them all from one place like Grainger).
